Child Safety Night at the Ballpark

July 11, 2019

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Mayor, Frank Klipsch, and the City Council of Davenport, Iowa, have proclaimed the week of July 14th– 20th, 2019, as Child Safety Week. Chris Edwards, President of Electronic Security for Per Mar, and Shawn Brown, Vice President of Sales for the Quad Cities River Bandits, accepted the proclamation at the Davenport City Council Meeting on July 10th. “Per Mar is excited and proud to be a part of Child Safety Week,” said Chris Edwards, “Security isn’t just about systems, alarms, and cameras. It’s about being proactive in protecting things that are invaluable to families, and that starts with keeping kids safe.”

The highlight of Child Safety Week will be on Friday, July 19th, 2019 when Per Mar presents Child Safety Night at the Ballpark. Per Mar will be joined by the Quad Cities River Bandits, Davenport Fire Department, Davenport Police Department, KlaasKids Foundation, UnityPoint Health-Trinity, and the City of Davenport to educate parents and guardians on the importance of comprehensive child safety. There will be post-game fireworks courtesy of Smart Toyota of the Quad Cities. In addition, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a free, clear plastic tote from Per Mar and the Quad Cities River Bandits.

During Child Safety Night, Marc Klaas of the non-profit, KlaasKids Foundation, and Per Mar will host a KlaasKids Print-A-Thon to promote and educate families about child safety and fingerprint and photograph children at no cost. The KlaasKids Print-A-Thon will start when the gates open for the game at 5:35pm and go until the end of the game. Parents are encouraged to bring their children (3 months+) to the Sports Lounge in Modern Woodman Park during this time. Using computerized systems originally designed for a federal law enforcement agency, parents will receive digitized fingerprints and an updated photograph of each child, pro-active child safety tips, a plan on what to do if your child disappears, and a DNA Collection Kit developed by the California DNA Laboratory.

Marc Klaas, the father of kidnap/murder victim Polly Klaas will attend and participate in the event. Marc Klaas will be available for remote radio and print interviews prior to the event and will be available for live interviews on the day of the event. To arrange interviews, please contact Tricia Griffith 801-560-1933.
