Everyday Rock Stars: South Bend

Dec 05, 2019

In 2019 Per Mar launched its Everyday Rock Star Program. This program is a way for the company to acknowledge “Rock Star” employees throughout the Security Officer Division. These employees continually go above and beyond. They are leaders in their workplace and truly carryout the mission and values of Per Mar.

This blog highlights the Rock Stars from our South Bend Branch. We asked each Rock Star a few questions to get to know them personally. Take a moment to learn about the person behind the Security Guard uniform!

Dealing with different people, there are so many different situations and personalities.

What have you felt proud about accomplishing in your time here?

Who is someone you admire, and why?
Morris Berkey, the General Manager from my first job at a manufacturing plant when I was 20 to about 26 years old. Morris taught me so much without any direct words, just through actions. He lived how he trained and had high accountability. One thing I learned from Morris was, “if you tell the truth from the start, you don’t have to remember the story a year from now.”

Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about?
Woodworking, I make small furniture. I'm most proud of the coffee table I made in high school. I also enjoy landscaping design, which consists of knowing what plants will look good where, how big they will grow, how much maintenance will go with each plant type and plenty more.

Being aware of surroundings, alertness, ability to learn tasks quickly, and ambitious.

What’s a goal you have for yourself that you want to accomplish in the next year?
To get in better shape, I’d like to lose 35 lbs.

Best piece of advice somebody ever gave to you?
Both of these came from my high school basketball coach. “Instead of making excuses, work on the problem” & “Use the 24 hour rule before discussing issues." How these words were presented just resonated with me and I have carried the values with me since:

What have you felt proud about accomplishing in your time here?
