Automatic Fire Alarm System (smoke & heat detector)

No home security system is complete without automatic fire protection. According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) fire is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 15 in the home. Having working smoke detectors in the home increases the fire survivability rate by nearly 50 percent. Nearly one-half of fire fatalities occur in the six percent of homes with no smoke alarms.

Local codes vary - but generally speaking, a detector is required in every sleeping area, in hallways outside sleeping areas, on every level of the home, additionally, where ceiling height (or headers) change by more than 18". (Other requirements may apply).

Most building codes now require new construction to have "hard wired" smoke detectors in the home. The detection normally installed by home electricians are the ionization type, which excel at detecting fast building/flaming fires, and can be quick to trigger from cooking fumes. They also require battery replacement annually at each detector.

Per Mar installs the photoelectric type of smoke detector, which is better suited to detect slow building smoky fires, (heat detectors are used in dusty environments). These detectors are centrally connected to, and supervised by the alarm control panel, and the only battery maintenance is for the system battery.

At Per Mar we have made voice notification standard for all residential systems. When a system with this feature activates, you will hear a message in plain language (some foreign languages available) so you will know immediately that it is a fire alarm.

Because we monitor the system you can have peace of mind when you're home or away from home that the system will communicate to Per Mar's UL Listed Central Station where our Dispatchers will notify the fire authorities.
